List summaries

A list summary is exactly what it sounds like: a short, plain-language description of what’s in a list of articles. Open a busy feed, and Newsbin can tell you — in a sentence or two — what the list is about, so you can decide whether it’s worth a scroll.

List summaries are generated on-device and are optional. They never change your feeds: they just describe what’s already there.

Using it

From any list, ask Newsbin for a summary and it reads across the articles and gives you the gist at the top. It’s especially handy on a large “All Articles” view or a busy folder, when you want to catch up without reading every headline.

Kept simple on purpose

Earlier versions of this feature tried to do more — topic chips, thumbnails, tap-to-filter — but in practice a plain summary turned out to be the most useful form, and the easiest to use. It answers one question (“what’s in here?”) and gets out of the way.
